"My work has been an exploration leading to art where background is the subject. I prefer to think of my pieces as including only one person: the viewer who is encountering the painting. I expect each of my paintings to engage the viewer by reawakening and clarifying environmental experiences that are often overlooked. I find my subjects in shadows on highways, light filtering through a windbreak, demarcations separating public and private property, early morning stillness, and patterns that contrast natural with human cultivation. In some ways, a finished piece is a record of my attempt to make visible an essence that seemed just beyond reach when I began." « back |
