"I always paint from life. My work is about my sense of place. The changes in light and colour over time and the spirit of where I am are not things I can find in photographs. For me there is more of interest in the physical world than I can invent. The sudden play of light on a surface and the interaction of colours and patterns are what interest me. These are absorbed over time and then expressed in my paintings."
