Introspection and the desire for an unmediated vision have always been the driving force for my work. After years of study and practice of many techniques and traditional motifs, especially in the figure and portraiture, in 1987 I began exploring the possibilities of expressing inner realities in paint. I began painting very freely in enamel with a pallette knife on cardboard, creating my first abstracted landscapes. I discovered that I need to create paintings as spaces for contemplation and self-exploration. I now allow images to emerge through experimental processes, painting through discovery rather than by preconception or linear thinking. The patterns, textures and rhythms of the mountain landscape where I live find their way into the many layerings of translucent oil colors that I use.
