Works on Paper: Mari Giddings
“I see myself,” she says, “primarily as a colorist in the tradition of Matisse, Bonnard, Rothko and Turner. Obviously, I enjoy working in several distinct formal styles, but, for me, all art is abstract. To not do representational art, or to not do abstraction, is like deciding to walk using only one foot, or to speak using only nouns. Art is not a thing, but a moment, a deliciously suspended moment made of pure energy -- a collision of heart and mind and hands.”
